Being a collection automobile fan, I have a special interest in Daimler, because of it history, from origins to nowadays.
After having a Daimler XJ6 S 1 (I loved the open top) that I sold later to a friend, I had and still have Jaguars. I recently considered buying a Double Six (I test drived two : a XJ S3 and a XJ40 , both affordable and in excellent condition, but knowledgeable friends discouraged me because of the engine, since repairing or rebuilding is so expensive. And then, by chance, I found an ad for a 1954 Daimler Conquest Century for sale in my region. Living in France (Brittany) pre-Jaguar Daimler are a rare breed (I only know a Britton with a Lanchester !).
I acquired the automobile after she passed the MOT and could drive her home on a hot August afternoon.
Now, there is a lot to do and she will stay at a local shop for some weeks (or months). But I'm very proud of my Conquest, and more than ever interested in Daimler. A mechanics nearby has a (former) Daimler hearse in his shop. I'll need that type of vehicle some day !
