Car Radio 1922

By 1920 Daimler were in a strong position as most of their models were cheaper than the competition's equivalent. The same year, a new budget put up road tax to the rate of a £1/horsepower, making the tax on cars like the model T Ford increase five fold, whereas Daimlers only doubled. In 1922, Daimler became the first company to realise the potential of car radio. The Light 30 had a Marconi eight-valve receiver fitted in the rear compartment, with a large frame aerial on the roof as an experiment and received perfect reception from Marconi House. After this, some cars were factory equipped with radios, but as the price was approximately 25% of the cost of the car, it was not a great seller and the option was dropped, although BSA did establish a subsidiary to make domestic wireless sets.(radio) In 1924
